Abstract
Relevance. In the context of globalization and expanding international educational ties,
teaching the Kyrgyz language to foreign students is becoming particularly relevant.
Kyrgyzstan has become a center of attraction for students from different countries, which
requires the development of modern methods adapted to the needs of students learning Kyrgyz
as a second language.
Objective. To study the effectiveness of modern methods of teaching the Kyrgyz language
to foreign students in medical universities of Kyrgyzstan and to develop recommendations for
their optimization.
Methods. An interventional study was conducted involving 80 foreign students of 1st–2nd
years of the Asian International University (Group 1 — traditional teaching, n = 40; Group 2
— combined methods, n = 40). In the experimental group, the following methods were
applied: communicative approach (role‑plays, dialogues on medical topics), audiovisual
method (video lectures, podcasts), contextual learning (patient intake simulations), inductive
method (from examples to rules), and a digital platform with interactive exercises. Duration
— 1 semester (16 weeks). Language proficiency levels (A1–B1 according to CEFR) were
assessed before and after the intervention.
Results. In the experimental group, the proportion of students who reached level B1 (basic
professional communication) increased from 12.5% to 67.5% (p < 0.001). In the control group,
the increase was from 10% to 27.5% (p = 0.08). The mean score on the final test was 78.4 ±
8.2 in the experimental group versus 52.1 ± 10.3 in the control group (p < 0.001). The most
effective methods were recognized as: the communicative method (material retention — 82%)
and the digital method (engagement — 88%). 92% of students in the experimental group noted
that contextual learning (simulations) improved their confidence in real communication with
patients.
Conclusions. The combined use of communicative, audiovisual, contextual, and digital
teaching methods significantly accelerates the acquisition of the Kyrgyz language by foreign
students to the level of professional communication. The implementation of integrated
programs using digital platforms and simulation technologies is recommended.
